Compare Coles and Woolworths prices for your whole basket
Search groceries in Grocero, add them to My list, then compare what the whole basket costs at Coles and Woolworths. Swap cheaper items or switch to the cheaper store.
One cheap product does not fix an expensive trolley. Comparing Coles and Woolworths prices properly means comparing everything you need this week, not one item. A September 2024 CHOICE survey found the two majors almost identical on overall basket price, which means the winner changes week to week depending on your list. Grocero adds up your whole list at each store and shows where it costs less.
The flow follows the path shoppers already take: find groceries, add them to a list (often from both stores), then decide where the whole shop should go.
Grocero compares Coles and Woolworths at launch, with ALDI next and more Australian supermarkets (IGA, Harris Farm Markets, and others) as we can match products accurately.
Step 1: Search and add groceries
Open the Browse tab. Use Search products, pick a recent search, or browse by category. Open a product, check each store's price (unit pricing and BEST PRICE when one wins), then tap + on the store you'd buy from.
You can also add from Specials with + List. Mixing stores is normal: milk from Coles, chicken from Woolworths, bread from whichever won that week.
For looking up one product at a time, see grocery price comparison in Australia.

Step 2: Open My list
Open the My list tab. Everything you added sits under My basket. Change quantities, remove items, or sort by store or category as you go.
A pinned dock at the bottom shows Your basket price: the running total for your current selections. It updates as you edit.

Step 3: Swap cheaper items on the list
If you added something at one store and the same product is cheaper at the other, that row shows a CHEAPER tag with one-tap Swap. Use it when you want to fix a single line without changing the whole shop.
This is useful on mixed lists: you added items while searching, and Grocero keeps checking whether any single item should move.

Step 4: Compare the whole basket
When shopping one supermarket would cost less for the whole list, the dock shows Cheaper basket with the saving percentage (for example -7%). Tap the dock to open Basket price comparison.
You get one card per store:
- Totals for Coles and Woolworths
- A CHEAPER badge on the winning store
- Honest coverage: how many items are matched, whether the total includes swaps (e.g. incl. 1 swap), and if a store can't fulfil some items
That is the basket call: not "this milk is cheaper," but "this store is cheaper for everything on your list."

Step 5: Switch only when you agree
Tap the cheaper store's card to move the whole basket to its prices. If that total needs substitutes (a different brand or a close match), Grocero opens a review sheet first. Every swap is listed with a reason, such as Same product, different listing or Similar product, and the sheet shows the New total next to Your current basket, with a SAVE amount when there is one. Then it's your call: Switch to Coles (or Woolworths) or Keep my basket. Nothing swaps silently.
If the gap is tiny, convenience can still win. You decide with numbers.

Specials inside a basket
An item on special can still lose if the other store's regular price is lower. To check specials on their own, see Are supermarket specials actually cheaper?.
More supermarkets over time
Basket comparison starts with Coles and Woolworths. ALDI is next, then more Australian supermarkets as we can match products accurately. The habit stays the same: one list, totals per store, swap or switch when it is worth it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compare Coles and Woolworths prices in Grocero?
Search in Browse, tap + to add items, open My list, then tap the basket dock for Basket price comparison. You'll see totals at each store, a CHEAPER badge on the winner, and you can switch the whole list in one tap.
What if I added items from both stores?
That is expected. Rows with a cheaper twin show CHEAPER and Swap. When the whole mixed list would cost less at one supermarket, Cheaper basket appears on the dock.
Is this better than comparing one product at a time?
Yes, for the weekly shop. Basket comparison answers where to do the whole trip. CHOICE's surveys show the Coles/Woolworths gap is small enough that the winner depends on your specific items.
Will Grocero swap my products without asking?
No. Swap on a row is a tap you choose. If a cheaper basket needs substitutes, a review sheet lists every change before anything moves. You can keep your basket as it is.
What if an item has no price at one store?
Grocero shows the gap instead of guessing. The comparison card says when a store can't fulfil items on your list.
Does basket comparison include ALDI?
At launch it compares Coles and Woolworths. ALDI joins when coverage is solid enough to trust.
Is Grocero free?
Yes. Building a list and comparing basket totals is part of core free comparison. Grocero is independent and not affiliated with any supermarket.
